Governor Ambode read the Riot Act due to the traffic gridlock and unusual increase in crime reported on major roads and highways especially on Apapa axis of the state, attributed to daily activities of petrol tankers in the area.
Arising from an emergency security meeting, Governor Ambode directed the full enforcement of the Lagos road traffic laws, especially as it concerns the restriction of motorcycle and tricycle operations.
The Governor said that the Council had made far reaching decisions at the meeting which he pointed out was in line with the commitment of his administration to ensuring security of lives and property, as well as the enforcing of the rule of law.
He, however, admonished residents of the state to see the last two months of the year as a period that required vigilance and a change in attitude towards issues relating to crime and terrorism.
Shortly after assuming office, Governor Ambode led heads of security and traffic regulatory agencies to several traffic points within the metropolis, announcing measures to tackle the situation headlong.
Commercial motorcycle operators, popularly called ‘Okada’, commercial buses and street hawkers, were seen returning to restricted roads. Their actions, had now led to increase in crime in the state, the government said.
