27yr Old Lady Dies Of Lassa Fever In Lagos

 A 27 year old lady died from Lassa fever in Lagos on Tuesday January 26th. ‎Confirming her death, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Jide Idris, said the lady died of the disease at the Ijede General Hospital. She is said to have traveled to Lagos from Edo state on January 2nd and had been down with a fever.

1 Dies of LASSA Fever In Jigawa State

 Jigawa State Government has confirmed the death of one person as a result of Lassa fever outbreak and 26 others persons who had contact with the decease were at present under surveillance.
Confirming the development, Commissioner of Health, Dr Abba Zakar, said the victim who resided at Gujubaki village in Dutse Local Government area of the state had just returned from Port Harcourt in Rivers State and reported to Dutse General Hospital with signs and symptoms suggestive to Lassa fever.

Nigeria Not On Top 10 Most Corrupt Countries list

Nigeria is not on the new list of the top 10 most corrupt countries released by Transparency International today January 27th. Somalia and North Korea were jointly ranked as the most corrupt countries while Denmark was rated the least corrupt country in the World. Nigeria was rated 136th of all 168 ranked countries.See the full list here

Lagos State Government Bans parties, Social functions in public schools

Lagos State Government on Tuesday said it would no longer allow social functions and parties in public schools just as owners of private schools across the state have been warned to comply with rules and regulations guiding their operations. The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule who disclosed this while briefing the media on the strategic focus of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration on education for 2016, said the Governor had directed that schools should no longer be used for social functions.

President Buhari To Address European Parliament Feb. 3

 President Buhari will be addressing the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, the Head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, Mr Michel Arrion, has said.
Arrion, who disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday at a news conference, said the President’s visit to the Parliament was at the invitation of the EU. He explained that Buhari would deliver his speech to the over 750-member parliament from the 28 EU member countries. According to him, Buhari will afterwards, have personal sessions with the President of the European Commission.

Eritrea Forces Men To Marry Two Wives Or Risk Jail

 New law of mandatory polygamy has reportedly been passed in Eritrea, with male citizens now compelled to marry two wives. According to a memo allegedly posted by the Eritrean government, any man or woman who contested the law would face prison time.
The post, which was written in Arabic and translated to English by activists, reads:

35 Prisoners To Write 2016 UTME


  About 35 inmates from Ikoyi Prison in Lagos have registered to write the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Mr Vincent Ubi, the Controller of Prisons, Lagos Command, Nigeria Prisons Service, disclosed this in an interview withnewsmen on Wednesday in Lagos. He said that the inmates from the Ikoyi Prisons School would sit for the Computer-Based Test mode(CBT) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
